Outside experience is always extremely helpful in a career, however it is important to have all the qualifying certifications when looking at employment opportunities. Organizations will want to make sure you have all the skill sets and education to meet their requirements, and then that outside experience is an added bonus. Keep in mind too that no one can take away that qualification. Once you have it, it is yours and a can only help you grow and achieve your goals.

I would not say that one is more important than the other. First and foremost, its important to obtain the credentials to be qualified for a job because that is going to be the first requirement in being considered for a position. Companies want to make sure you have the right education and skills in order to be able to preform the job. From there outside experience is always extremely helpful and can further help you succeed in your role. The more outside experience you have the more likely you will have more ideas to bring to the table which can help the company.

Outside experience is always important but if a job requires specific certifications in order to perform the job, I would have to say that obtaining the appropriate credentials is more important. If these certifications or credentials are required, it will likely be difficult to find a job without them. However, I would also strongly encourage obtaining outside experience as well. This is only going to help build your resume and make you a more attractive candidate for potential employers.
