While completing school over the past few years, I have interned at the same company off and on. On my resume, how should I write this? Can I write (2015-2017) and leave it at that? Or do I write something to acknowledge the gaps like Periodic 2015-2017 or Temp 2015-2017?

Great question. As you probably already know, the real estate on your resume is incredibly important. For the sake of space and simplicity, I suggest taking the route of listing the starting month and year with the final ending month and year. Once you are in the interview, that is a great time to clarify if need be.

Best of luck!

Hello and great question! If these were internships you had while still in school I think it safe to put the years that you were employed there while including in one of your bullet points that these were in fact summer internships. If a recruiter is interested in your experience this can always come out in conversation as well so I wouldn’t worry too much about the wording of the years as long as you are being truthful when taking the next steps in the hiring process. Hope this helps!

If your internships varied in title/responsibilities/scope, I would suggest listing each of those internships separately and indicating the timeframe for which you worked in each of those internships. Doing it this way ensures that your resume clearly covers the skills you learned and the duration of those unique internships. However, if your internships at that company were identical from summer to summer, it might be best to list “Summers 2014, 2015 and 2016” or something along those lines.
Example of same company, varying internships:
Company X, Research Intern (May 2014-August 2014)
- Responsibility 1
- Responsibility 2
Company X, Production Intern (May 2015-August 2015)
- Responsibility A
- Responsibility B
Example of same company, identical internships:
Company X, Research Intern (Summers 2014 and 2015)
- Responsibility 1
- Responsibility 2

Since you are just building your resume, this would be a great way to occupy space to fill out any blank spaces. During the multiple internships, was this for the same role or was each summer a different experience? If it was the same each year, you could note Summer Internship, 2015-2017. If each year was a different experience, I would recommend noting each one as a separate job and for the time period use the actual start/end month/year.
