Is there a way to follow up after submitting internship applications through a company's website? I do not have any direct contacts within the company, nor any leads through LinkedIn.

I would check to see if there was recruiter name attached to the job application first, because sometimes recruiters attach their contact information at the end of the posting. If you are still in school, I would recommend reaching out to career services or professors to see if they know anyone at the company that they can reach out to and put in a good word for you. In addition, many different companies visit schools throughout the academic year, so find out if the company you are interested in is planning a visit to campus in the near future. While LinkedIn is definitely a good place to also look, many companies are active on Twitter and Facebook now, so you can also look there for a possible contact. Good luck!

Excellent question!  If you don't have any connections via LinkedIn etc., I suggest taking a look on the career site to see if there is a, "contact us" email address.  A number of companies tend to have a staffing inbox for follow-up questions etc.  Best of luck in your search and thank you for submitting your question. : )

I would call the recruiting or talent acquisition department at the organization(s) you've applied to. Internship selection can take a bit longer to complete as there are many candidates and few slots. There is no harm in making a phone call and asking to speak with the recruiter handling the position you applied for.

Great question!
Internship selection can be a long process. Be sure to work with your career services at the college or university that you attend to find out when that company is on campus so you can engage their college recruitment team. Many recruiting teams will have a group e-mail address as well to reach them at.
Good luck!
