I have found that a minimum of two weeks is often requested and expected.  Even more time can be appreciated to allow your current employer to start the process of finding a replacement (not that you can fully be replaced  :-) ) and also to allow some transition discussions to occur between you and the new person selected for the role, or at least with a designated team member who will cover until a replacement is determined.

When resigning from employment a minimum of a two week notice is the standard unless there are extenuating circumstances.   During that time it is usually greatly appreciated by your co-workers to have closed out as many open projects as possible and work with someone on a transition plan so that  someone is not randomly assigned to fill in for you without having any idea of what the status of your role was prior to your departure.  If you are in a leadership position (i.e. you are a manager of people) 30 days notice is usually the norm.  This allows for a solid transition plan to be put into place and the aforementioned actions completed.

My recommendation would be to give at least two weeks. That way you will allow the company you are leaving enough time to also begin searching for a new hire to fill your position.

It's common courtesy to give 2-weeks notice. Most employers understand that and are respectful of this.
