Congratulations on your new job. It's nice that you had a chance early in your career to have lunch with your CEO.
I can understand your reaction to your CEO's comments. I believe the comments are more along the line that 70% of the US workforce is disengaged with their work. There have been recent articles in national publications stating this. One example is a 2013 Gallup State of the American Workplace study (http://www.ryot.org/gallup-poll-70-americans-disengaged-jobs/376177
). While this is a disturbing survey finding, it doesn't necessarily mean that most people only like 30% of their job. Engagement or disengagement have many causes, from work environment to supervisor to personal life situation.
Each of our jobs is in a large part what we make of it and how we individually react to our environment. I would not let the statistics nor the comments of your CEO get your down. You have entered a career in a position where you will learn and grow every day. Look forward to that growth.
