Hi there. I'm about to graduate in Control and Automation Engineering. It is required that I write a thesis about an engineering project in order to achieve my degree. While the thesis should have academia content, the idea is to apply the concepts that I've learned in the academia in real-life cases. I plan to start an internship at an American company aiming for a long-term career, where I could participate in a project and use it as subject of my thesis. The thesis can be presented with fake numbers and omit processes when the information is sensitive to the company. The problem is that I'm graduating in a Brazilian university. The quality of the courses is top-rated among the Latin American universities, which can be asserted from many statistical studies. I have experience with internships in Brazil and Germany only. My question is how should I present my situation to recruiters? How much information should I provide about the background of my university, of myself, of this "academia bureaucracy", without being misinterpreted? How do I grant myself an opportunity without "scaring off" the recruiter?

There are couple of points presented in your question but I'm only going to address the latter question of how to present yourself to recruiters and future employers. The simple answer is that you will be honest when talking about your experiences academically and professionally. If you are honest and provide the best possible representation of what you've done you will be fine. Employers like to see candidates that have meaningful experiences with different companies and locales since those factors can distinguish you from other applicants. Congratulations on all the hard work you've put in toward your degree! I would like to address two concerns you've brought up in your situation.

First, you've asked how to present your situation to recruiters and the answer is that a recruiter's primary concern is seeking out top talent, regardless of the background of your university training. Depending on your GPA, experience and leadership while in school, your University may actually help you stand out more since it is probably less common in a pool of applicants. However, if you feel the need to speak to it a little, use your cover letter as an opportunity to feature some of the work you've done to distinguish yourself and also highlight the top-notch education you've recieved.

Second, if you are a right 'fit' for a position, you will recieve opportunities (and not scare off recruiters). Your skill-sets, experience and other attributes will determine if you are a match for the role, and a recruiter will recognize this. When interviewing, you don't have to go out of your way to impress. Be yourself and be honest.

Congratulations on your success and focus on your future!  There is not a script that you need to follow to get recruiters interested.  You need to be open and honest with who you are and what you are looking for with the recruiters.  Make sure that when you are researching opportunities you are focusing on those companies and roles that fit with your experiences and education  and most especially those companies that focus on recruiting from and supporting individuals outside of their home country.
