There are many resources available to help you with your resume. There are online tools that can help you build a resume, as well as resume wizards within Word that could help. You can also look for sample resumes online to help you get started.
You may also want to look into Career Services centers at your previous high school or college because they often have resume workshops as well, or professionals that can help you. If you know of any HR professionals or Managers you could also solicit their feedback since they most likely see quite a few resumes.
It is important to use key words based on your experience and the job description of the role you are applying to, so you will most likely need to make some minor updates to your resume each time you apply to a different position.
I am not trying to deter you from paying to go to a professional, but I just wanted to provide you with some additional tools that are readily available so that you have some options!

Great question and one that I think a lot of people wonder about. Unfortunately, it isn't a one size fits all answer. Are you asking because you aren't getting responses from resumes that you have sent out or do you not feel like your resume is the best it can be?  Sometimes we can be our own worst critic, so I would recommend some other options before hiring a professional resume writing service. First off, there are many options available online that you can use for free. You can google "resume help" and many options come up that you can review. You can look at sample resumes for individuals with similar experience or goals and see how yours stacks against them. You can also make sure that you use power words on your resume to attract recruiters who may be searching by certain words. Once you have a rough draft together, run it by people whose opinion you trust and that way you may see things from another person's perspective. If you are currently in school, you should have a Career Services Center which would be able to help you put a resume together. If, after doing all of the above, you still feel like you want to use a professional service, you will need to check them out and see if you can find reviews on them. There are many services out there at various price levels so make sure you know what you are dealing with and what to expect. Good luck!

Great question! No, I do not think it is worth the time or the money to get a professional resume made for you. I would suggest to a few guidelines in making a resume.
1) Have professional level people proof it, many times over. This is as good as any means to get your resume in mint condition. I have found that professional resume services end up making your resume more like a graphic arts document and too distracting to really get your skills across.
2) Keep your resume to one page, in a word or PDF. Don’t do anything fancy with branding or graphics; just text. Make the information really easy to understand. The biggest mistake people make with their resume is overcomplicating it by making it wordy, difficult to read, and adding graphics.
3) Have a couple of different resumes made and ready for the different industries that you are applying for.
I wish you all the best in your search and with your resume!

I would say that it is important to have your resume reviewed by multiple professionals, however, I don't think that you need to pay for this service.  Many universities will offer resume review sessions in which recruiting professionals from many companies come in and students sit down with these individuals to review their resumes and provide guidance.  You could seek out other organizations who provide this service as well.  Also, the career services department at a university will help with resume development.  Another good way to ensure the quality of your resume is to have a mentor or someone whom you respect in the business world review it.  Bottom line, it is good to get an expert review of your resume, but there are ways to do this without paying a great deal of money.
