Absolutely and this trend is not stopping. I hire employees from their LinkedIn profile. LinkedIn is mostly free for Recruiters and Hiring Managers to search for profiles related to the key word search for a candidate and is viewable. As a recruiter, it is like having access to another database of potential candidates I would like to reach out to and I do via messaging. I like to look at where you worked, the schools you attended and sometimes what groups of interest you belong to, courses you have taken, projects if you list any or what your references have to say about you.
You may not know to apply to all the positions you are a great fit for, but a recruiter can find you based on matching key words to introduce you to your dream job and eventually hire you!
