I am a senior majoring in Management Information Systems. I have very little technical background and I was just offered an internship as a help desk tech. I am hoping to become either a Systems Analyst or Business Analyst. Will the skills I gain from this internship help me find employment in one of these fields easier? What certifications would be beneficial?

Congrats on the internship! It can definitely help beef up your resume to land the right full-time position. You should also let your managers and mentors know your career plans, they may be able to help network you with the right team at the company you are interning with.  You should also check out the job descriptions of a Systems Analyst or Business Analyst to try and get exposure to the eliminates they are looking for in candidates. You may even ask if you can work on some of those parts in your current internship, if there is flexibility.

Good luck with your internship & future job search!

Any such internship will be beneficial for you.  You will likely obtain some practical experience that will help you pursue your field of choice, but more importantly, it will help you to build your professional network, which will be critical in finding the career that you desire.  At your internship, where possible, seek out opportunities to have informational interviews with other systems analysts at that company, as well as leaders in that department, and inquire with them what is necessary to have a career in that field and to be successful.  It is these relationships that will be important for you when you graduate and are seeking a full time career in this field.
