I'm majoring in Finance. Do you think I need to complete any co-ops?

It's always a great idea to complete a co-op or internship. Internships are a great way to get some real world experience in an area you are interested in pursuing after college. This will also help you to stand out when applying to jobs. Employers like to see graduates that are involved around campus as well as internship experience. Some companies offer summer, semester and year long internships. I would recommend to check your college website for internship positions, attend your college career fairs, speak to your professor or advisor. They may be able to give you some advice or have connections with local companies in the area. Best of luck!

Any time you have an opportunity to get hands on experience is a plus for you. It will provide you with a chance to check out potential employers for possible future full time employment and see if they would be a fit for you. It will also allow you to network and meet people who can help you in your future job search. In addition, it will give you experience in your area of interest to see what you do and do not like when it comes to finance. Having a co-op or internship on your resume shows an employer that you have initiative to increase your skill set and are goal oriented. At Cigna, we post our co-op and intern opportunities on our careers website, as do many other companies. You can also check with your Career Services Department at your college for listings or people to reach out to. Good luck!

Hello! It's great that you are thinking about your future and considering the different avenues of hands on learning while in college. To be honest, it really depends! Having an internship and/or a co-op will allow you to experience finance in the real world and allow you to continue your development. Both are great in terms of experience and boost your resume. I would suggest doing your research on the different companies you are interested in and see what types of programs they provide. During your search, your career services center can be a great resource for you since they can give you insight into what others have done and had success with. Good luck!

Yes! As a student internships and co-ops are important for you to learn about companies and positions that are offered and for recruiters to see your experience when applying for a full-time position. Check with your career services office to see when companies are coming on campus. Best of luck!

Hello! Gaining experience in your field through an internship or co-op will never hurt you, on the contrary, it'll help give you relevant experience and make you a competitive candidate. You'll want to check with your college as sometimes they do require students to complete an internship or co-op as part of their degree. Even if they don't require it, I definitely suggest completing one. Hope this helps - good luck!
