I am a college student and my school offers a mentoring program. I need to interview someone in my field for a class and I am in contact with an alumni. She told me she is able to meet after 5:30pm. I was wondering what places are appropriate to meet? Restaurants? Cafe? Starbucks? Also, should I dress formally or casual?

Great questions! You should choose a setting that is quiet enough that you will be able to hear each other, maybe a quiet coffee shop or even a place on campus. You will want to be able to utilize your time with her and not be disrupted by your surroundings. In regards to your attire, I would recommend going with a business casual type of outfit. Good Luck!!

I would recommend a casual setting such as a coffee shop or café. I think a sit down restaurant would be too formal and it would be harder to come and go as you please. Pick a location that is quiet so you can easily hear each other and don't have distractions. As far as attire, I would recommend business casual so you can set a good first impression!
Good luck!

Hello! It would be appropriate to meet in a casual resuarant like Eat N' Park, Waffle House, etc or a coffee shop.  You want to conduct yourself in a professional manner so business casual attire would be a better option.

That’s great that your school offers a mentoring program! As far as a location to meet, all those you listed are appropriate. I would consider the length of time it might take to conduct your interview and the time of day when selecting a location. Your interviewee may want a snack, drink, etc. It’s ok to check with the person you will be speaking with if the location is ideal too. Maybe give the person an option – café or Starbucks. I would recommend you dress business casual at least. You want to present yourself as professional but not look too dressy. If you are unsure what business casual means, you can search the internet for some ideas.

Best of luck!  Networking is a huge step in the right direction and connecting with a mentor is a great way to start.
