When reviewing resumes and employment applications of newly graduated college students, do employers value a higher GPA or a more rigorous class schedule?

I would tend to say the GPA because how would I know how rigorous your class schedule was?  Your question assumes that the employer knows more than they likely do about your chosen major and associated curriculum.  What is generally more important to employers is what you've done outside of the classroom vs. in it.  Someone who has a "perfect" GPA but has never done an internship / co-op, has never had a summer / part-time job, has never participated in a volunteer / community event, has never participated in some other extracurricular activity is not nearly as interesting as someone who has all those things, but a lesser GPA.

Every company is different so it's difficult to say that this is important to all employers. In my experience, involvement and experience outside of the classroom is more important and is weighted heavier. Your GPA is important to an extent. Typically, I think employers want to see a GPA of at least a 3.0 or above, depending on your field of study. Employers want to see that you are a well-rounded student and can juggle multiple priorities and responsibilities effectively. Being able to demonstrate you have experiences outside of the classroom is going to be key.

When reviewing resumes of recent college graduates we look for a strong GPA, Extracurricular Activities, and participation in clubs & organizations. Some of our entry level positions require a certain number of credit hours in a specific subject. If you have a lower Overall GPA of 2.8 and in your major classes you have a 3.2, we will take that into consideration.
