Hello, I am starting my senior year in college and did an internship this past summer. During my internship, I did not hate but I also did not love the job I was doing. Would you suggest doing a post grad internship and try something different or jump right into the work force?

Hey there! It's hard to say without exactly knowing your field of work. Do you think that you are in the right major and there's a different area you could focus on? If so, it might be best that you do another internship in a different area to see if you like it any better. Some companies have rotational programs where the employee would do different rotations during a select period. A rotational program would be a full time opportunity that might help you decide which area you could focus on without doing another internship. Remember that you can always discuss your options with a professor or the career center to get their specific feedback.

I would agree with Carrie, it's difficult to say without understanding exactly what you didn't enjoy about your internship. If you didn't enjoy the career/major field at all, it may be worth taking some additional coursework this year with a focus outside of your major. If you enjoy your career field, but didn't like the specific position you had, a rotational program is a great option. This would allow you to explore different positions so you can determine what you enjoy (or don't enjoy). While a post grad internship would allow you to explore a different opportunity, I would also keep in mind that some internships are only for students currently enrolled in school full-time and not all companies will hire students who have already graduated. I would recommend doing your research to understand if those opportunities exist for your area of interest. Securing an internship during fall or spring semester of your senior year is also another option.
