What is the first step I should take when searching for a job in the marketing field?

It depends on which area you're interested in--research, consumer behavior, graphic design, copy writing, social media, advertising, web development, etc. Overall, start by going for an internship if you're in school. If you're already in the workforce, consider that you may have to start over and that includes salary. All of that being said, try to do doing something--anything--related to marketing as a volunteer or as a "side hustle." For example, almost every small business, nonprofit or professional organization needs a dedicated social media manager. Consider interning, volunteering or working on building your own social media (if applicable). By doing that, you can build a portfolio which is a very important tool for marketing jobs. Most of all, try to identify a mentor who is already in the field and ask for leads! I hope this helps and best of luck!

I agree with Eddie on all points! Understand what area you are interested in first and also check out different marketing job titles and duties. This will help you understand the roles and responsibilities as well as the expectations of what you bring to the table.
Good luck!

Hello, I agree with the advice given from Eddie and Sylvia! Gathering as much marketing experience as possible will be important for securing a job. I also would recommend looking over past roles or leadership opportunities you have had to identify any transferable skills. Even if the opportunity does not fall directly under Marketing, the knowledge you gained from those experiences could potentially be applied. Good Luck!
