I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in technical management with a concentration in accounting. Although I was invited to an unpaid accounting internship at Mount Vernon recently, I decided to learn more about accounting first before pursuing this offer. I have about half a year of past work experience in marketing. Would this internship be helpful as I pursue a job in accounting in January 2020?

If the internship is aligned to the field of work you are pursuing or thinking about pursuing it’s a good idea. At the very least, it will help you decide if you don’t want to be in that field or the industry. I would suggest understanding the internship role and responsibilities and see if that aligns to the type of account jobs you will be looking into for Jan 2020. You want to ensure it is relevant work experience and you gain knowledge to bring to the table!

Best of luck!

Hi there! I agree with Sylvia, if the internship aligns with the job in accounting you want to pursue then it's a good idea! Internships are able to help you decide what field or industry you want to be in and it's good to have that learning experience under your belt for when you are looking for full time job opportunities in accounting in January 2020. When you start looking for a job you'll want to be able to talk and expand on the relative experience you have for the job you are applying for.
