I was a former student assistant at our college, and I have been a member of committees in institutional activities such as graduation, research program and recognition. I was wondering if I should include these activities on my resume as I am applying for internship in the HR Department. Thank you.

Yes you should include these activities. Though there are many functions of HR, it is mostly focused on the development and support of human capital within the organization. Responsibilities from your student assistant role directly correlate with HR projects and tasks. Employee recognition, helping employees advance in their career and researching best practices are characteristics that align with a successful HR department and you’ve had experience developing these skills. Yes, I would definitely include these experiences on your resume! Regardless of the type of position you apply to, these are great experiences to demonstrate your work ethic and well-rounded experience. These experiences can likely translate to an HR role very well too so I would also think about any similarities you can pull from these positions to tie them into HR.

Yes I would encourage you to add these to your resume.   Especially if they represent a skill or interest that you excelled in.  When looking at resumes, accomplishments and outcomes of behaviors are highly effective in securing the interview.   Adding experience that you were not paid to do is highly recommended when creating your resume.   These experiences are more than likely a passion that you have.
