I applied for a job last month and I did my in person interview on campus last week for an internship position. The recruiter said I should hear back in a couple of days, but I haven’t heard anything back. The job advert was taken down today and my application is still in progress. What does this indicate and at what point do companies send rejection mails?

Hi there! First of all that’s wonderful that you moved forward in the process and had an in person interview for the internship. If the recruiter you’ve been working with set an expectation that you would get an update in a few days and you are past that timeline then you have the green light to follow up. Whether you send an email or pick up the phone and call is up to you, but either way it’s ok to check in and ask for a update. It’s hard to guess what’s going on behind the scenes with the job posting. Sometimes they automatically unpost on a certain date, while others are taken down when the hiring team feels they have enough qualified candidates in the consideration process. Typically decline emails are sent when the position is filled so if you haven’t received one yet I would keep your hopes up until you get a definitive status of your application!
