I had a phone interview w/ an internal recruiter, then a call w/ the VP of HR, then an in-person interview with HR and 2 other senior people, then a final presentation round, where I had to present my idea (45 min). The presentation was 4 weeks ago, and still no answer. I reached out to the recruiter for an update twice and every time her answer is “I will let you know next week!”. Is it safe to assume I am out of the running?

Hi there. First of all congratulations that you made it through the many steps in that hiring process, that was quite a ride! Considering how many people you spoke with and that you took the time to do a 45 minute presentation for them I would hope they would at least notify you if you were not in consideration any longer. 4 weeks is a long time to be waiting but with the holidays and people taking time off etc, it is possible that could have slowed the hiring process or even brought it to a halt. My advice is to continue to reach out to the recruiter weekly to get an update. It is very likely that they are waiting on other decision makers and that they don’t have more information other than what they are telling you. That will show them that you are still interested in working for them as well as your ability to persevere and follow-up. Hopefully they will pull things together and make a decision and then you can find out if you got the job or they went another direction. Hang in there!
