Should I apply to jobs even if I am outside the experience requirement?

Whether you are outside the experience requirement by being overqualified or underqualified, I would say the answer depends.  Carefully read the job posting.  Many will state a "required" number of years, "minimum" or even "preferred."  If your experience is just shy by a year or two, but you have the education, or over by that much and have the education, you may want to apply anyway.  However, if you're over or under by five years or more, I would advise you not to apply.

I would read the job description carefully and only apply for positions where you meet the minimim requirements. Many job postings state a minimum number of years of experience that is required for that position. If the experience is preferred and not required then I would advise you to apply.

You could consider applying to roles that are “stretch” roles – roles where you have some of the criteria and believe you could reasonably develop the rest of the experiences and do the job well. If you are applying to a position that does not relate to your experiences at all, ensure you cover in your resume why you are applying to the position. Also, please note that for some companies all or most skills and experiences listed under a basic requirements section are truly requirements for the role and a candidate must meet those to be considered. If you feel you meet most of the basic requirements and some of the preferred you can go ahead and apply to see what response you receive.
