What are your policies regarding tattoos and piercings? Would these things hinder a qualified individual from receiving a job?

Work attire policies are set to ensure there is a positive work environment for employees, customers, and visitors of the company. In most cases piercings or tattoos are acceptable as long as they don’t interfere with established company guidelines (i.e. food safety laws or manufacturing safety rules).
As long as the applicant is willing to comply with the established company guideline I don’t see these items hindering someone from receiving a job. For this topic you will want to use your best judgment or if you are still unsure just ask during the interview process.

There is no "policy" regarding tattoos and piercings but the reality is that people have individual opinions around them. My suggestion os to always dress professional whether it be for an interview or once you start at a company and as long as you do so there should be no issues. 

Of course if you are in an industry that looks at them as more of "the norm" such as entertainment, music etc. it may not be an issue at all. In a more corporate setting I think being conservative is always the best policy.

Most companies today do not have policies around tattoos and/or piercings, other than their impact on safety in the workplace (i.e. piercings would generally not be allowed in a production environment).  Regarding other aspects of an employment search, as long as you present yourself in a professional manner, tattoos or piercings should have no impact your ability to obtain a job.  Your qualifications for the position is what is most impactful.

My recommendation is to always err on side of caution. For the interview I would cover any tattoos and take out your piercings until you see the dress code and environment. You do not want to risk losing a position by not covering them, you can always disclose them later if they are acceptable to the company. You will need to decide for yourself how important it is for you to be able to show them. If you want to work in a culture that accepts them you should target that kind of environment. I know many successful business professionals though that have tattoos but you would never know that from their daily attire.
