What is the single best thing I can do to get an interview with a large company? I know that it is easy to slip through the cracks and not be noticed due to the large pool of applicants, especially when applying online. Is there anything I can do on my resume to help me stand out?

Large companies often receive large quantities of applicants. Chances are, these applications are being filtered by a software program before it reaches a real person. Your best bet is to ensure that you include keywords from the job description in your resume – of course, if you can back it up with experience. This will increase the chances of your resume rising to the top in the applicant tracking systems. If you don’t hear back, or if you receive a message that the position was filled with another candidate, don’t despair. Large companies often have multiple postings of the same or similar job title in the same geography. Search and apply to other jobs that you are qualified for and interested in. Good luck!

There are a number of ways to make your resume stand out.  First, take the time to customize your resume to the position for which you are applying.  Review the job description and ensure that those job requirements for which you are a match are emphasized on your resume.  Another suggestion is to list on your resume your leadership experience and community involvement.  It is easy for a recruiter to determine if your job skills are a match for a position, but the difficult part for them is determining what kind of person you are.  Your leadership experience and community involvement can speak to this and potentially set you apart.

The first thing to do is to make sure you are portraying your best self in your resume, since this will be the first thing that the recruiters will see. Look at the responsibilities and qualifications for the job you are applying to and make sure the content that is on your resume aligns with the job description. If the company is active on social media, visit their sites and see if there are any networking opportunities for you to get in contact with a company representative. If you have any unique past experiences, interests, or have achieved any rewards or accomplishments, be sure to include those as well, if possible. Information like that can sometimes catch the eyes of recruiters when they are looking through large amounts of resumes. Good luck!
