I am a 26 years old male with a receding hairline that's making me look older than my real age.  My question is, if I shave my head completely, will this look professional for a job interview? I am applying for a pharmaceutical sales job and shaving my head completely increases my self esteem and my confidence but I am not really sure how recruiters would perceive it.  What's your stance on completely shaven heads?

First, I'm glad that you are thinking about the importance of professionalism in preparation for your interview. Second, shave away! If cutting off your thinning locks makes you feel more confident, by all means go for it. While you are smart in recognizing that there are certain faux pas that make recruiters cringe, a shaved head is not one of them. If you are still uncertain, look to some of the top business leaders such as Amazon's CEO Jeff Bezos or bestselling author Seth Godin – these men are both shaved bald, respected and successful.

The most important thing you need when going into an interview is confidence.  If shaving your head increases your self-esteem and makes you have a more positive outlook, then by all means, do so.  If you feel that a potential employer is making a judgement about your age based on your appearance, then that is probably not an employer you want to associate with anyway.  The best recruiters and companies are focused on your skills, experience, and motivation.  That is what you should focus on as well.

There are many individuals in the workplace who have their heads shaved completely. If it makes you more confident and increases your self esteem, i'd go ahead and shave! Your Confidence, experience, and profesionalism are the main things the interviewer should be focusing on.  If their focus is just on a shaven head, it may not be the best company for you.  Good Luck!

If you would feel more confident shaving your head, then I think that is the best way to go. One of the biggest qualities recruiters look for in candidates during interviews is confidence. Many people chose to shave their head, so chances are you will not be the only one in the office with a shaved head. Increasing your self esteem so that you can put your best self forward during the interview is key. Good luck!
