I understand that social media is changing the way businesses communicate. What Facebook/Twitter/Blog post, do you consider inappropriate for your business? If an employee posts political beliefs that conflict with the interest of an industry would there be disciplinary action or does it only apply to post where it is a direct insult towards the employer? For example, Employer A is competing with Employer B and a employ from a 'Likes' a Facebook page from employer B, would that be problematic?

My biggest piece of advice in regards to social media postings is if you ever have doubts about whether a posting would be inappropriate, then just refrain from posting it because you are probably right. With all social media sites, there are various privacy settings you can put your profiles on, but information always has a way of finding itself in the wrong hands, so don’t think your profile is hidden from everyone just because it’s private. It is fine to have an opinion about a specific topic, but sometimes putting it in writing on social media is just not worth it. I hope this helps!

There have been many instances of employers using social media as means to terminate an employee. There are privacy settings that could limit the publicity of your profile on various sites, but there isn't a guarantee that it will be 100% fool proof. While your social media account is usually a reflection of your personal life, I would be cognizant of what you are putting out there because you never know who will share or view what you are saying. Due to the times, many are being forced to remember to lean on the professional side, even on their own private sites. If you think it could cause you issues at work, take the safe route.

Social Media is something you should keep in mind when you make posts.  The best advice that I can give to you have questions about your postings then I would suggest that you remove them or not post them.  Follow your gut.  Some employers do look at social media and it can influence hiring decisions.
